![]() But basically every single major Batman story under Schreck relentlessly painted Batman in an awful light. ![]() ![]() I actually quite like Tower of Babel and that JLA run gave Batman an arc. If it were just 1 or 2 stories that might be ok. Yet even with these I’d argue they have elements of the negative characterization. There are a few that have received more broad praise, like JLA: The Tower of Babel, Hush, and Under the Red Hood. Unsympathetic jerk Batman lacking the humanizing qualities of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. ![]() Batman was written horribly and repeatedly made unlikeable with stories like Officer Down, Bruce Wayne Fugitive, War Games, and The OMAC Project. I consider 2000 to 2006 to be the worst era of modern age Batman comics. In 2000, Dennis O’Neil stepped down as group editor on the Batman books and Bob Schreck took over down to 2006 and Infinite Crisis. I can’t speak for Superman, but I’d say for Batman the editorial leadership change was bad for the character, and it resulted in the worst era of modern age Batman comics.
